Club History

An advertisement in the April 4, 1970 issue of the Edmonton Journal caught the eye of many of the Edmonton and area Corvette owners. It read "Attention Corvette Owners - All those interested in forming a Corvette owners club, please attend the organizational meeting on Wednesday, April 8 at 8 pm at Stedelbauer Chevrolet Oldsmobile Ltd, 97 Street and 137 Avenue." The ad was placed by George Stedelbauer after discussing the idea of a club with two local Corvetters, Barry Stanley and Brian Simpson. Approximately 35 individuals responded to the ad, gathering in the Stedelbauer show room as requested.

By December 1970, Bylaws and Objects of the association had been drawn up and sent to the Registrar of Companies. On December 29, 1970 it was official, the Northern Alberta Corvette Owners Club (NACOC) was registered under the Societies Act of Alberta as Society #6141.

On October 26, 1974, a meeting of Corvette Club representatives was convened in Calgary to discuss any interest in unifying Corvette Clubs. The Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs (CCCC) has become the official umbrella organization for Corvette Clubs in Canada. NACOC is proud to have been one of the founding member clubs of this Council and continues to be a strong supporter of the organization.

In 1977, NACOC was approached by Speed Sport Promotions West, to assist with the production the World of Wheels Car Show in Edmonton -- that year the fourth annual. Driven by a desire to gain financial security, NACOC took this on as a club project, remaining involved with the show until it was cancelled in 1984.

Over the years, our Club has acknowledged milestone events with special celebrations of various kinds. Examples include the 10th,  20th, and 30th annual Northland Corvette Conference in 1983, 1993, and 2003, which were attended by many current and past members of the Club. A 20th Anniversary dinner was held in 1990. In 1995, a silver anniversary 'Spring Fling' coffee party and a special edition of the Northland Corvette Conference were hosted by the NACOC. In 1999, our club hosted CCCC's 25th Annual Convention and had the distinct privilege to have Dick Guldstrand as a truly outstanding weekend guest.

As hosts of CCCC's 30th Annual Convention in September 2004, we are pleased that Dick Guldstrand will again attend.
